Festive Hosting With Tish Weinstock

Behind the scenes of The Go-To x Tish Weinstock Christmas festivities, the Vogue writer and all-round fashion, beauty and culture connoisseur shares her go-to gifting tips and holiday hosting essentials.

When we imagine an en vogue festive season, we see social calendars filled with glitzy parties teeming with glamorous guests. But, while the RSVPs are going out in full force, those heading up London's fashion scene apparently have just the same guilty pleasures as the rest of us. Asked about her favourite part of the holidays, vampy style icon, Tish Weinstock, was quick to clarify where her loyalties lie. “The hunkering down with family and friends watching shit TV and eating pigs in blankets.” Dreamy. But, when it comes down to it, a good old holiday party never goes amiss, and Tish is all about give and take. “I love a festive party followed by a cosy night in,” she admits. “It’s about finding the right balance.” The sparkly looks have to be taken out for a spin at least a couple of times before the seasons out. It would be rude not to.

Whether it’s a star-studded event or an intimate dinner, the beauty editor is all for getting her close-knit group together. “I love to host,” she says. “As long as I’m not in charge of cooking. But I also love being a guest - slightly takes the pressure off.” For the times when she is roped into hosting, she follows her own simple advice. “Don’t overthink it and try and be as flexible as possible,” she advises. “People cancel at the 11th hour you just need to go with it. The more relaxed you are the more relaxed your guests will feel.”

And the guests that are lucky enough to be seated at Tish’s table are in for a treat. Her eclectic home is a wonderful blend of witchy wonders, heirloom trinkets and unique treasures all curated with her unmatched interior taste. For those intimidated by a tablescape, she recommends not overcomplicating it. “Flowers and candles are the classics,” she says.

The temperature is dropping (fast), setting the scene for the season, and with it come’s Tish’s myriad of festive traditions – many of them shared with her young family in their eclectic space. “I love decorating the tree with my son and listening to carols,” she muses. “We’ve also started leaving a mince pie and some whisky out for Father Christmas and a carrot for Rudolph.”

Reflecting on special moments, Tish can’t wait to get cosy in her Wiltshire family home with her loved ones. She says her favourite way to spend Christmas day is to “wake up with stockings, followed by the ceremonial opening of presents. Next a big boozy Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, followed by a nostalgic movie. Something Spartan for dinner and then early to bed.”

And what about what’s under the undoubtedly well-dressed tree? She admits that last minute gifting is her go-to. “I like to do it all in one go and make a festive day of it,” she says. For those stuck with endless giftees and no clue where to start, she shares her golden advice. “The more personal the gift the better,” she says. “I love a monogram. But if you’re really stuck buying something in the world of luxury self-care, a beautiful candle or bath set, is always a winner. It’s the kind of thing you wouldn’t spend money on yourself but love to receive.”

When it comes to her most memorable memento, she is quick to answer. An 1830s gold necklace from her husband, stylist, Tom Guinness, that never leaves her neck. If gifting is about giving as good as you get, we would kill to be on Tish’s gift list.
