Sapna Rao Shares Her Go-To Picks

We sat down with content creator and Sheerluxe's Fashion & Beauty Editor, Sapna Rao, to get the 411 on London hotspots, what to gift Gen Z and so much more.

TASTEMAKER AND ALWAYS AHEAD OF THE TRENDS, GIVE US 3 FUN FACTS ABOUT SAPNA

I’m Indian so hosting, togetherness and being with friends that feel like family is second nature.

I’m actually more introverted than people may think - so being at home is my safe & happy place. I think, particularly because I’m an only child and grew up abroad in Singapore, I merge my love for home and getting my fam, besties and/or new friends together whenever I can to make the best of both worlds (being in my happy place & with people I love).

While fashion and beauty are obvious favourites of mine, food and home are not far behind. I love to cook and love interiors. A lot of weekends are spent mood boarding, Pinterest-ing or looking at interior shops. I’m a vintage & second hand magpie, I love finding pieces no one else has. Similarly it’s always been my hack for affording designer on a budget. The same idea goes for interiors too.

SAPNA-APPROVED PICKS

YOU ALWAYS HAVE THE BEST RECS, WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO LONDON HOTSPOTS?

Some faves are definitely Campania & Jones near Columbia road for home style, cosy pasta and Bistro Freddie for great French food and some of the best pie. Indian food doesn’t get better than Gymkhanna but it’s, of course, a treat yourself kind of spot. I also love Jamavar. And for affordable, on-the-go, Kati Roll in Soho slaps and so does Taro for a very good katsu curry.

TO GIFT OR NOT TO GIFT, WHO IS YOUR TRICKIEST PERSON TO GIFT AND WHAT WOULD BE YOUR TGT PICK?

It’s funny because everyone says I’m the hardest to gift these days! My boyfriend is probably the hardest to gift because he either wants something wildly boring and not special enough to be a present or something really hard to get your hands on like a sold out piece of clothing or shoes. But I’ve cracked the code with just going off piste for experiences and little bits for our home (which really is a double win).

GIFTING FOR GEN Z IS A TOUGH FEAT AND ONE OF OUR BIGGEST FAQS, WHAT ARE YOUR THREE CAN’T-GO-WRONG GIFTS FROM TGT?

Gen Z’s are a sucker for aesthetic looking bits they can shove on the gram (I say this as a fellow Gen Z) so there’s an art in finding something that ticks this box but that’s also special and usable. That's why I find home-y bits like bedside table knick knacks or hosting goodies to be perfect.
